Why we built it

When Omegle shut down in 2023, it left a real gap. For two decades it had been the default answer to a simple impulse — "I want to talk to someone new, right now, without any of the setup." Nothing clean replaced it.

Most of what filled the void was either overrun by bots, buried behind paywalls and sign-up walls, or had no moderation at all. VelvetTease was built to be a modern version of that original idea: instant, anonymous, and actually moderated.

The "tease" in the name is about the spark of a first hello with a stranger — the small thrill of not knowing who is on the other side. It is a video chat brand, built around conversation, not commerce.

What makes VelvetTease different

Who built VelvetTease

VelvetTease was founded in 2026 by Leo Chen, an independent developer who built it after Omegle shut down. The goal was simple: bring back the instant, anonymous, one-on-one video chat that Omegle was loved for — but with the moderation and consent controls the original never had.

It is run as a small, independent project rather than a faceless content site. Leo writes and oversees the guides published here, drawing on first-hand experience building and operating an anonymous random video chat platform.
